From The Office Of The Chief Of Police...
Welcome to the Orangeville Police Services website. On December 3rd, 2007, I was given the honour and the privilege of being sworn in as the 22nd police chief for the Town of Orangeville. I look forward to serving the community and in working collaboratively with all stakeholders in keeping this Town a safe and enjoyable place to live and work.
The Orangeville Police Service is committed to working in partnership, with all members of our community, to ensure our citizens enjoy a safe, secure, and enjoyable environment in which to live and work. The most effective way to accomplish this goal is to accept community safety and crime prevention as joint responsibilities. With the public's support and assistance, our police officers can achieve tremendous success in preventing many crimes from happening in the first place. By working in true partnership, we can also solve more of the crimes that may still occur. The key element required for this success is a genuine police-community partnership.
The value statement contained in the Orangeville Police Service Strategic Plan reflects our organizational beliefs and goals, including our commitment to this community. That statement is this:
We believe in working in partnership with, and being accountable to, the community;
We believe in maintaining a good rapport and open lines of communication with the community;
We believe in maintaining high standards of service; and
We believe in building on the strengths of our staff.
The Police Service Board and all members of the police service are committed to provide policing with these beliefs and goals in mind.
One of the many challenges the Orangeville Police Service will face in the future is ensuring our citizens play an active role in crime prevention. Using the Internet, the media, public displays and crime prevention workshops, we will provide you with the knowledge to prevent falling victim to criminal acts of vandalism, theft, or violence. Many of these crimes are known as crimes of opportunity and by simply removing the opportunity these crimes will not occur. An example of this is locking your car doors before retiring to bed, thereby removing the opportunity for a thief to easily steal your valuable property.
Wouldn't everyone enjoy a crime-free community? It is only by working together in a crime prevention partnership that can we make progress in that direction and ensure criminals are kept under control! Remember, a safe community is your call!
