The Public Works Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Town's road system and related items such as the sidewalks, street lights, and boulevard trees, the stormwater drainage system, the water supply and distribution system and the sanitary sewer, or wastewater, collection system.

Public Works also administers the contract the Town has with First Student Canada. which operates the Town's transit system, the contracts for the collection and disposal of the solid waste and recycling materials with Waste Management of Canada Corporation and Sandhill Disposal and Recycling Ltd., respectively, and the contract with the Ontario Clean Water Agency for the operation of the sewage treatment plant.

Public Works also does the engineering review for all planning applications ranging from applications to the Committee of Adjustment to site plans to residential subdivisions.

The administrative staff of the Public Works Department are located in the office in Town Hall at 87 Broadway.  Operations staff work out of the Operations Centre located at 500 C Line.
